The Art of Cueing and Assists with Nancy Kaul

Sunday March 24, 2024 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Spoken words and visual cues are essential ways we communicate when teaching asanas. Now, more than ever is a great time to revisit and tune up the quality of the directions we give. Effective cues reduce the need for hands on assists and allow our students to find the alignment that works for their unique body and supports their purpose in practice.

We'll explore:

  • The purpose of cues and assists

  • Common cues that need improvement

  • Ways to improve your communication

  • Why, when, and how to incorporate hands on assists

Intro to Chair Yoga and Accessible Cueing with Jill Gillespie

Sunday April 14, 2024 2:00 - 4:00 PM
Everybody can practice yoga! To achieve the benefits of our physical (asana) practice, we need let go of expectations of looking a certain way when we practice, achieving ‘ideal yoga bodies’ and ‘advanced’ versions of poses! We have to shift our own self-talk to give
ourselves permission to move and take up space on our mats without judgment.

We must seek to meet our yoga practice and our students
compassionately and joyfully where they are right now.

In this workshop, we will explore inclusive cueing language for foundation yoga postures, sequences, and transitions. We’ll practice how to bring these poses to our own unique body’s needs each time we come to our mats. Class will include using chairs, walls, and other props (blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets).

Workshop Audience:
1) students who want to feel more confident and compassionate in adapting their personal practice to their own unique bodies
2) yoga teachers who are looking to add to their toolkit of creating compassionate, welcoming spaces for diverse bodies, particularly those who practice in abundant bodies, aging bodies, and bodies recovering from injury.
